Obsessions Gift Shop Hosting Fundraising Spin Art Work Shop
Obsessions Gift Shop, owned and operated by Betty Proctor, is hosting a fundraising event to raise money for MPAC, a nonprofit organization dedicated t
o bringing awareness to the talents and abilities of persons with ASD and social communication disorders. On April 11, 2021, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Proctor is opening her shop for a spin art workshop.
Of the art workshops Proctor hosts, spin art workshops are her most popular. Spin art is an art form that uses various paints, a spinning mechanism, and a canvas. Proctor encourages everyone to come out and have some fun at this hands-on event. Not only is this a safe socially distanced means of relaxation and fun, but those who participate will also be supporting a cause.
“This event is for a fundraiser for our nonprofit which helps persons on the autism spectrum and persons with communication disorders,” she said. “We’re offering a safe place where they can practice communicating with others and possibly form new friendships.”
Proctor added, “I’m hoping to bring awareness to autism and communication disorders and I’m hoping to bring in more money to the non-profits so that we can provide more resources and opportunities for those on the spectrum.”
Obsessions Gift Shop is a well-known gift shop in Tallahassee, Florida. It is mother-daughter-owned and autism-friendly. The proceeds go towards MPAC (Motivating People through Arts and Crafts), a nonprofit organization founded by Proctor, with the vision to provide a space where persons with ASD and communication disorders can learn employment, social, and life skills.
With supplies being provided, Proctor says that the only thing participants must bring is their enthusiasm. She also encourages participants to “dress for mess,” as the spin art can potentially splatter on your clothing.
Prior to the event, there will be a raffle for some Obsessions Gift Shop goodies. Prizes include a coupon for gifts at the shop, an Obsessions t-shirt or hat, and a free registration for the spin art event.
